Born in Vienna (Austria), pianist Markus Gotchlich began his musical path as a child learning to play classical music, which seems especially interesting if we link it to the fact that he lived in an apartment that once belonged to Beethoven himself. Later Markus Gotchlich became fascinated with jazz music and moved to study and live in the United States. Today, Markus is already well known on the US jazz scene. His technique and lyricism create a special sound.
The album “Of Places Between”, released last year, was recorded with Grammy Award winners Federico Britos and Jose Javier Freire. The debut solo album was released in 2008, “When the Day is Done,” and was highly acclaimed. There is a feeling that Markus can translate people’s thoughts and feelings and turn people’s stories into music, just as William Shakespeare did by turning people’s stories into English literature – this is how critics speak of this remarkable musician’s work.
