"Lupa" feat Sinfonietta Rīga
Latvia

The instrumental, electronic and analog modern fusion band “LUPA”, founded in 2016, consists of four of the best Latvian jazz and contemporary music artists: Dāvis Jurka - alto saxophone, “Erica Synths” effects; Ritvars Garoza – synthesizers and “Fender Rhodes”, Valters Sprūdžs – bass; Andris Buiķis - drums, “Tempest” analog drum machine. The band’s debut album “Sequences and Consequences” was nominated for the independent “Austras Balva 2019”, as well as for the annual award for music recordings “Zelta Mikrofons” in the “Best jazz album of the year” category.

"1982" is already the third project of the group "LUPA", which is also recorded in the album, and this time the composer of all the pieces and the author of the arrangements is the drummer of the group Andris Buiķis. "When I was writing the music for this piece (band "LUPA" and State Chamber Orchestra "Sinfonietta Rīga"), I was very inspired, because I knew that everything would be as it should be and the result would be excellent. The amount of work was huge, yet each beat flowed naturally and fluidly. Of course, unlike streaming sites, in recordings that make my heart feel particularly dynamic," Buiķis.

The new project continues the traditions of Latvian symphonic jazz and in its sound combines the usual instruments in jazz music, as well as a chamber orchestra and even an accordion and an analog drum machine. "Opening the scores of the works written by Andris, we were overwhelmed by an inexplicably convincing feeling that we are privileged allies in phenomenal music full of creative freedom. The synergy in the recording studio and on the stage was absolute and exciting. In my opinion, this is a very valuable and important project that dazzles with colors, content and virtuosity," says Normunds Shne, Riga state chatter. cooperation with "LUPU" group.
