Marika Šaripo Quartet feat. Beāte Zviedre

Marika Šaripo Quartet and Beāte Zviedre is an ensemble which performs original compositions of Marika Šaripo. Their music combines jazz and improvisation, as well as elements of classical and world music, providing a wide spectrum of emotions and sensations. The unique and wonderful voice of Beāte Zviedre enriches the performances of the Quartet.

Marika Šaripo 

Marika is an active pianist and composer. The first 18 years of her artistic career Marika has devoted to the classical music, where she gained success in international competitions for pianists. Later she found her calling within jazz and free improvisation. This passion lead to her master studies at ArtEZ University of the Arts in the Netherlands, where she lead an international jazz ensemble playing original music MarikaSaripo-Quintet.

Beāte Zviedre 

Beāte studies in the jazz department of the Jāzeps Vītols Latvian Academy of Music. The singer has gained popularity as one of the voices of the group “Framest”. She is also the artistic leader and the voice at Beāte Zviedre Trio.

Jānis Rubiks

Jānis studies in the jazz department of the Jāzeps Vītols Latvian Academy of Music. He plays the bass guitar and the double bass in various projects of jazz and improvised music together with musicians Evilena Protektore, Toms Rudzinskis, Deniss Paškevičs, Ieva Kerēvica, Kārlis Vanags and Daumants Kalniņš.

Toms Rudzinskis

Toms has studied saxophone in the prestigious Amsterdam University of the Arts (Conservatorium van Amsterdam). He has won many competitions within both jazz and classical music – namely, he has obtained the “Keep an Eye” jazz award and grand-prix at both ‘’Burghausen Jazz competition’’ and Dutch Jazz Competition’’. In 2015 Toms released his first album “ABRA” which was nominated for the Latvian National music awards “Golden Microphone” (“Zelta Mikrofons”) in two categories – “Best Breakthrough Act” and “Best Jazz Album”.

Pauls Pokratnieks

Pauls has obtained a master’s degree from the Royal Conservatoire in The Hague, the Netherlands. He is regularly giving concerts in Europe with various international musician groups. He has participated in such jazz festivals as ‘’Aglanjazz Festival’’ (Cyprus), ‘’Casa Del Jazz’’ (Italy), ‘’Warsaw Summer Jazz Days’’ (Poland), ‘’Reykjavik Jazz Festival’’ (Iceland), ‘’Rīgas Ritmi’’ and ‘’Saulkrasti Jazz’’ (Latvia). Currently Pauls lives in Gothenburg, where he is an active musician and a music teacher.
