We are back from Miami Beach Jazz Festival 2016!

We are happy to announce that we are back fulfilled with joy and pride from Florida, Miami Beach Jazz Festival 2016!

Just a short reminder – latvian drummer Mareks Logins won the main prize in contest “Baltic Drummer League” organized by Saulkrasti Jazz Festival in year 2015. He had the possibility to attend master classes and perform on Miami Beach Jazz Festival grand finale concert stage. Mareks participated in master classes together with his mates from band “Sinkope” – Āris Ozols (guitar) and Pēteris Liepiņš (bass). Teachers are well-known in jazz – Nicole Henry, Philippe Leoge, James Morrison and others.

Miami Beach Jazz Festival grand finale concert was on the stage of Olympia Theater splendid hall. Festival audience is quite conservative, but our musicians suceeded to catch their attention already with first

The director of Saulkrasti Jazz Festival Raimonds Kalniņš was also invited to participate in the festival. He was guest artist and a teacher. He conducted master class of basic jazz rhythms and performed together with Joe Carter Trio in the concert.

This was wonderful experience to all of us. Thanks to all our supporters, especially United States Embassy in Riga and Miami Beach Jazz Festival for the warm welcome.

 Winner of the Baltic Drummers League 2015

Baltic Drummers’ League is a young drummer competition organized by Association “Vasaras muzikas sesija” together with musical instrument producer “Paiste”. The final part of the contest is held during Saulkrasti Jazz Festival.

Participants are students age to 25 from all Baltic countries. National finals are held in Lithuania, Latvia and Estonia but the grand final takes place on Saulkrasti Jazz Festival main stage. This year there were 5 finalists – Siim Koppel and Joel Hainsalu (Estonia), Pēteris Žīle and Mareks Logins (Latvia), Domantas Razmus (Lithuania).

Due to the successful cooperation between Saulkrasti Jazz and Miami Beach Jazz festival the main prize for the Baltic Drummers’ League contest winner 2015 is a fully paid trip to Florida, to participate in jazz music workshops and perform on Miami Beach Jazz Festival stage.

We are proud to announce that the winner of this year’s contest is participant from Latvia – Mareks Logins! Congratulations!

Mareks Logins is 25 years old musician currently studying jazz music in Royal Conservatory of Brussels in Belgium. He has graduated Jazepa Medina music school in Riga, Latvia. He works in numerous jazz and pop music projects in Latvia but the favourite one is “Sinkope”. There are three artists in this band: Mareks Logins – drums, Āris Ozols – guitar, Pēteris Liepiņš – bass.
